December 2010
In September I started to collect clothes. I sent a mail to a group of people asking for the items that they no longer were using. At that time I had a lot of spare time, little money and lived in a house that had a washing machine and a terrace large enough to wash and dry. I began to select things. The clothing that was not for the fair, I started to use myself, and I also began to give them away. I prepared them for modification, recycling or reuse of them.
I worked with plenty of dyes and bleaches, as well as inks for silkscreening and a lot of sewing machines. The first ones I did are my favorites. And luckily, they were not sold. Well actually, there hasn’t been a lot of sales. But I knew it was going to be hard, this issue of the sales in Rio Colorado Street. I already knew pretty well the premises and the neighborhood. But anyway I’ve always been excited about everything I was doing. I spent about 2 ½ months locked in my studio working with each garment.
Eventually the opening day arrived. Some friends came and I sold a lot of things! I also had to build it up like a real clothing store. And for this, fortunately the girls from Edarpic were fantastic and advised me in the decoration and helped me with sales and prices. I worked there for five or six days. There weren’t so many visitors. I made friends with the neighbor. We used to spend a lot of time chatting. She was so nice…
I traveled by bus from Olivos, which is one hour and a half (more or less) and those days were extremely hot, and to get there was a huge effort on my behalf. While I was there alone for many hours, I tried to also do other things.
On the afternoon of December 24, a girl passed and asked for help. She needed to change the closure to a new dress she had bought for Christmas Eve. She left the dress and went to buy the zipper. I sewed it, everything was great, and she was very happy. I was happy too, for her I think.
I can say it has been definitely great!
Thank you EDARPIC and thank you OC
