Ruben always wears pleated pants, tucked inside a squared shirt, generic brand white sneakers and V-neck sweaters of various colors. His office is a desktop and a laptop. He goes in irregularly and when he does, he spends his hours watching the computer and sometimes gets distracted by the few passersby of the street. The busiest time is when his phone rings, he gets up and walks around in circles around the office. Drinks mate and goes to have lunch at his house that is two blocks away. He does not talk to anyone. The locals call him “The guy of the mates”. They do not understand if he sells them or what. He claims to be in charge of a new business division of a well known bulbs company that is now launching an organic yerba and mate-kits for long-distance buses.
He is the first participant of Edarpic & Oc. We do not know how to deal with his austerity. In a fit of anxiety and desperation, inexperience leads us to ask Silvia - a local painter and future participant – for two paintings related to the countryside and the mates in order to decorate the office in an absurd fit of intervention.
Ruben never said anything. Perhaps he never saw them.
